FGLL Jamboree
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the Jamboree located?
The jamboree is located at the Fessenden School in Newton. The address is 250 Waltham St. West Newton, MA 02465 Click on the directions tab under the Jamboree Information for more detailed directions.
Is the Jamboree a rain or shine event?
YES -- FGLL Jamboree will take place unless the weather is REALLY bad or playing will damage the fields. Check the FGLL website for the latest schedule information in case of bad weather. It will have up-to-the minute information. No one can play on the fields if thunder and lightning should occur.
Do I have to check in my team and where?
Yes, each coach should check in at the registration desk a half hour before their first game. You will be given your t-shirts and your volunteer assignments. The registration desk will be up at the top of the hill.
Where do we park?
There will be limited parking on campus and no one should park in spaces marked for faculty since many are residential. People should park on either Waltham St or Albmarle Rd. Drop people and gear off at the campus and park back on the road.
When should I arrive before my daughter’s game?
Arrive Early— Please have your team arrive at Fessenden at least 30 minutes before your first game to allow time to park, find each other, and get to your field for warm up. After the first game, teams are usually instructed to meet up 15 minutes before games, at their next game field.
What are the game times and game duration?
Games will start and stop on a central horn. There will be 5 minutes between games so please arrive at the field, with goggles on, ready to play. Not being ready means you play shorter games. Each team will play four games. The teams will play 25 minute games with 5 minutes between games.
What are the team sizes?
Grade 5/6 and Grade 7/8 teams will play 12 V 12. Grade 3/4 teams will play 10 V 10. Because we are trying to accommodate everyone, field size may be a bit smaller than you have been playing.
What do I do if our team is going to be a No-show or forfeit?
If you are short players, we will have no problem finding girls willing to join your team for a game or two...it's part of the Jamboree spirit! Please try to report a player shortage (10 minutes before start time) to the registration desk. We will find players to fill in until late players arrive. If you know you are going to arrive short of players please contact
and she will contact your Jamboree opponents so they can help you and avoid the crisis. If you are a "no-show," FGLL will not be inclined to invite your team back to a Jamboree for a long, long time...
What do I do if we are in a Lopsided Game?
If you see that your team is dominating a game, please demonstrate the sportsmanship that FGLL represents by not running up the score. To keep the play even, switch to four passes before shooting or play with non-dominant hands at the top of the sticks. Remember absolutely no checking is allowed for 3/4th or 5/6th grade teams. Only modified checking is allowed for 7/8th grade games.
Do we have any Team Volunteer Assignments?
The people managing the Jamboree are all volunteers like you. We all need to pitch in with "chores" like trash pickup, registration desk duty, timing duty, etc. Your volunteers must check at their assigned times at the Registration Desk to be assigned to their duty. Each volunteer will be expected to serve a minimum of 30 minutes
Do we have to pay the officials?
You do not need to pay the officials. FGLL will pay them directly. They will not be timing the games. The games will be signaled by the central horn. Please ask if they would like a 2 minute warning before the end of the game. Jane Vigeant will be the head umpire/assignor and will be on the premises all day.
Will there be First Aid Personnel on site?
FGLL will have first aid personnel on-site, please report injuries to the registration desk and they will find the Medic on duty.
Is there running water or toilets?
There is no running water at the fields for the teams. Please bring coolers and liquids for your teams. There will be Porto-Potties, but no indoor facilities are available.
Will there be food and gear to purchase on-site?
Yes, there will be vendors selling lacrosse gear and gifts, i.e. Brine, Rapstik, etc. There will also be concessions available for purchase. We will be selling coffee and donuts in the morning and for lunch, there will be pizza, snacks, candy, and drinks. All vendors and food will be at the top of the hill in or around the registration desk.
Can we bring tents and chairs?
Yes - Team should feel free to bring tents. Please do not set them up in areas that encroach on the sideline of any of the fields. There is a covered pavilion at the top of the hill with tables and chairs for anyone who needs to sit down in the shade. Parents can also bring chairs.
Are dogs allowed at the Jamboree?
No dogs or pets of any kind are allowed at the jamboree. Please leave your pets at home.
What do I do if I have any questions?
On Sunday, Jamboree on-site staff will reside at the Registration table at the top of the hill in the pavilion. Look for them if you have questions or need help.
